Summary: | Food is an integral aspect of our culture in Singapore, and eating is known as a national obsession. Even so, disconnection can be seen between local food and Singaporean, where the food we eat is simply food to be consumed, with no knowledge of the story behind its creation. The topic of inquiry and exploration for this project is Katong Laksa.
Laksa, an iconic food in Singapore, is a representation of cultural hybridity. It is a hybrid between the Malay and Chinese cuisine from the Peranakans. This project deconstructs the origin of Laksa and reimagines into an alternate narrative. It aims to encourage Singaporeans, particularly the younger generations, and people around the world to discover more about Singaporean culture through food. |
