译策略与字幕翻译策略为切入点,探讨新加坡方言剧的中英字幕翻译策略。As a multi-racial country with various ethnicities, Singapore has a variety of languages,
and this linguistic diversity is reflected in its television programmes. Dialect programmes in
Singapore are predominantly in Chinese dialects such as Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese, with
a little mix of other languages like English, Chinese and Malay. These dialect programmes are
often subtitled in English and Chinese, involving both intra-linguistic translation (dialect to
Chinese) and inter-linguistc translation (dialect to English). There is limited research regarding
dialect translation, and even fewer studies have been conducted in the Singaporean context. Based
on Berezowski’s set of dialect translation strategies and Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies, this paper
will explore the subtitling strategies in Singapore dialect drama “I Want To Be A Towkay!”. |
