论新加坡方言节目的字幕翻译策略 —— 以方言剧《亲家、冤家做头家》为例 = A study of Singapore dialect subtitling strategies in “I Want To Be A Towkay!”

作为多元种族与祖籍的国家，新加坡的语言极其丰富，语言的多元性也体现于电视 节目当中。新加坡的方言节目以福建话、潮州话、广东话等汉方言为主，同时参杂了少许 的英语、华语等其它语言。这些方言剧往往有英汉两种字幕，涉及了语内翻译（方言译中 文）和语际翻译（方言译英文）。学界中现有的方言翻译研究非常有限，以新加坡为背景 的研究更是少之又少。本文将以 2022 年的方言剧《亲家、冤家做头家》为例，以方言翻 译策略与字幕翻译策略为切入点，探讨新加坡方言剧的中英字幕翻译策略。As a multi-racial country with various ethnicities, Singapore has a variety of languages, and this linguistic diversity is reflected in its television programmes. Dialect programmes in Singapore are predominantly in Chinese dialects such as Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese, with a little mix of other languages like English, Chinese and Malay. These dialect programmes are often subtitled in English and Chinese, involving both intra-linguistic translation (dialect to Chinese) and inter-linguistc translation (dialect to English). There is limited research regarding dialect translation, and even fewer studies have been conducted in the Singaporean context. Based on Berezowski’s set of dialect translation strategies and Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies, this paper will explore the subtitling strategies in Singapore dialect drama “I Want To Be A Towkay!”.
