In recent years, puzzle games have gained increasing influence in the video game market due to their unique interactive modes and cognitive challenges, contributing to the diversification of game narrative structures. The Cube Escape series, with its bizarre storylines and distinctive art style, has attracted a loyal following. Through the close integration of images, text, music, sound effects, and player interaction, the series constructs a complex, nonlinear narrative structure that offers players a unique immersive experience. This paper aims to apply the research methodology of Text and Image Studies to analyse the interplay of visual texts and interactive elements within the Cube Escape series and their roles in enriching the narrative. The study will focus on the design of visuals and interactivity, examining how these elements collectively build the narrative and influence player experience. Additionally, this paper will analyse the nonlinear narrative of the series based on the release sequence and the players' responses, aiming to reveal both the strengths and limitations of such narrative methods. This series of games has established a comprehensive and rich worldview and storyline through the combination of image design, interaction design, narrative structure, and marketing strategies. It has also successfully shaped its unique micro-horror, absurd style. With high ratings on gaming platforms and significant attention on social media, this paper believes that the overall success of the series is sufficient to demonstrate its innovation and influence in game narrative design.
