Summary:In the field of magnetic recording technology, the demand for ever-increasing data storage capacity has driven the recent introduction of perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) as an alternative to the current longitudinal magnetic recording (LMR). The PMR media have been successfully used in the hard disk drives owing to their small grain sizes, low noise, and improved thermal stability and high anisotropy, and also they have overtaken the LMR in terms of better recording performance.
