The biggest contributors to food waste are consumers, with more food being wasted by households. The most common reason for food waste in households is expired food. This problem is also prevalent in Singapore due to resource scarcity and population growth. An urgent need exists for a solution that encourages households to minimise food waste. A mobile application, Pantry Planet, has been developed to simplify food inventory management and minimise food waste. The project's objective is to design a user-friendly mobile application that allows food items to be inputted into an inventory using various methods, including manual entry, barcode scanning, and receipt scanning. The application also features a customisable expiry date reminder and a grocery list function to aid users in making plans and minimising impulse purchases. Broader efforts to support sustainability and environmental conservation can be contributed to by Pantry Planet, which reduces food waste and its associated carbon footprint.
