Summary: | Technology advances every single day. People tend to seek higher education, working in higher paid jobs. As human lifestyle improves, more working adults are able to buy their own vehicle. Nowadays, even teenagers tend to drive their parents car around. However, they may not have enough driving experience, or may be too immature to handle a vehicle. This may lead to accidents and collisions happening. As the number of vehicles around the world increases every day, the number of accidents happening daily also increases. Accidents usually happen when the driver is not concentrating on the road, or may be too inexperienced to handle the vehicle. Accidents may lead to serious injuries or even death, and must be avoided at all cost. A collision avoidance system will be able to sense any close in collision that is about to happen, and warn the driver. Visual effects such as camera video display or LEDs, together with audio effects, will be able to alert the driver, forcing him to notice the object in front, and step on the brakes on time. In this project, a collision avoidance system will be implemented. 4 main subsystems will be implemented, which includes the blind spot checking system, forward collision warning system, stationary parked vehicle warning system and lastly the automatic parking system. These 4 systems will be able to aid the driver as well as alert the driver in times of danger. Due to the limitation of not have a real car to work on, the collision avoidance system will be implemented on a robot car instead. The car will be set to move automatically, and when it senses an object in front, it is supposed to light up some LEDs and warn the driver, as well as forcing the brakes and stopping the entire car when the distance reach critical. When set to parking mode, the car will also be able to park automatically. It will be programmed to park in perpendicular parking lots. These functions will be able to aid the driver and reduce the amount of collisions happening, if it is implemented in the real car system. |
