It used case study in qualitative research as a method. A purposive sample of ten principals and seventy two faculty respondents were chosen. The study analyzed gathered data through constant comparison method in qualitative research. In the empirical study, it became apparent that democratic leadership style was the most popular leadership style. Laissez faire and situational leadership styles were also practiced by a few. Self-confidence, integrity, creative thinking capacities and courage are the personality traits of principals as well as willingness to assume responsibility. Ego drive and discipline are the motivational traits of principals. Meanwhile, clear vision and mission, collaborating and communicating, evaluating and sharing leadership are some leadership strategies used in the exercise of school leadership by principals in ten top-performing public secondary schools in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.
